Fairytale cottage hits the market

This fairytale cottage is so quaint it could be straight out of The Holiday sans Jude Law and a tonne or two of snow.Called Fig Tree Cottage, it was built using authentic techniques learnt in England, according to real estate agent Ivana Reich of Hutton & Hutton Inner East.“The original builder went all the way to London to learn how to build an authentic English cottage. It really is a beautiful iconic house. It was built in 1988.”“It reminds me of Kate Winslet’s cottage in The Holiday. You just need Jude Law to come knocking on the door,” she said.Ms Reich said it was “so easy to picture yourself baking biscuits in the traditional kitchen, hosting morning tea in the adorable shed or on the back porch, or tending to the beautiful little garden”. I’ve stayed there on a weekend. It’s perfect for a homestay, it would make a great Airbnb. It’s literally a hop, skip and jump from everything including a winery that’s walking distance away.” The owner, who bought the two bedroom, two bathroom home close to a decade ago, said it reminded her “of the close-knit English village I grew up in”.“Everyone always stops to say hi, ask how you are, have a chat, and they’re always looking out for one another to show they really care.” A roaring fire, a winter’s night, a nice meal and a glass of wine are all that’s missing here. And maybe English heart-throb Jude Law who starred in the Universal Pictures/Columbia Pictures’ romantic comedy The Holiday which involved a cottage similar in charm to this one being used in an international house swap. The property is perfect for a home or an investment or Airbnb rental. “My favourite thing about my home was watching the four seasons go by and seeing the changes in nature and the garden.”“In Australia we often get just summer and then winter, but at my little cottage I really got to experience the magical colours of spring and autumn.“I have lived the authentic fairytale dream in this cottage and I hope somebody else gets to live their fairytale too. This home has meant the world to me and I have adored every moment I’ve lived here.”The cottage, which has already been attracting interest, was said to be “just perfect for someone looking to settle into a simple life or someone looking to invest and rent it out as an Airbnb experience”. The builder had to go all the way to England to learn techniques to make this cottage.last_img read more

Fish and Wildlife need volunteers in turkey brood surveying

first_imgStatewide-The DNR Division of Fish & Wildlife is looking for volunteers to count wild turkeys and their offspring from July 1 to Aug. 31.Each summer, wildlife biologists and volunteers conduct brood surveys, counting the number of young wild turkeys observed with turkey hens to estimate how many young turkeys live through the summer. Summer brood survival is one of the primary factors influencing wild turkey population trends in various regions of the state and informs wild turkey management.Turkey biologists can’t do it by themselves. So they need help from volunteers to get an accurate count of turkey broods in the state. The goal this summer is to collect 3,000 brood observation reports from citizens across the state, with at least 25 brood observations in each county. To help, please register as a 2019 participant by clicking here. Instructions for the survey and an illustrative guide on how to report observations of wild turkey broods and hens are provided on the website.last_img read more
