The Lloyds (LSE: LLOY) share price has not been able to escape this year’s market sell-off.Year-to-date shares in the bank have fallen about 46% excluding dividends as investors have become increasingly concerned about the UK’s economic outlook.5G is here – and shares of this ‘sleeping giant’ could be a great way for you to potentially profit!According to one leading industry firm, the 5G boom could create a global industry worth US$12.3 TRILLION out of thin air…And if you click here we’ll show you something that could be key to unlocking 5G’s full potential…However, following this decline, shares in the lender appear to offer a wide margin of safety. But is now the right time to add the stock to your portfolio or could the Lloyds share price fall further?Lloyds share price valueAt first glance, the Lloyds share price looks cheap. It is changing hands at one of the lowest levels of the past decade. The stock now looks even cheaper than it was at the dark days of the financial crisis. This seems unwarranted. Lloyds is much stronger than it was back in 2008. What’s more, the financial system as a whole is not on the verge of breaking down today, as it was in the financial crisis. That being said, at present, the outlook for the economy is exceptionally tough. We’ve not experienced a period of disruption as severe as this in recent memory. However, the economy has always experienced booms and busts. On every occasion, the economy has come back stronger over the following few years and decades. This suggests that while the near term outlook for the Lloyds share price is uncertain, over the long run, operating conditions for the FTSE 100 bank are very likely to improve. As such, buying the bank at this low level could lead to high returns in the long run.Future income championAs the lender has recently cancelled its dividend for the foreseeable future, investors are unlikely to achieve any income from the Lloyds share price in the near term.Nevertheless, during the past few years, Lloyds has become a FTSE 100 income champion. This suggests that when regulators allow UK banks to resume dividends, investors could be well rewarded.Of course, at this point, it is not very easy to tell what sort of returns investors could achieve from the Lloyds share price over the next few years. But the company’s past performance gives us some guidance. For example, City analysts were forecasting a total dividend of 3p per share for the lender in 2020. It may be some time before this level of income returns, but if it does, investors buying the stock today can look forward to a 9% dividend yield. In 2019, Lloyds distributed 3.37p per share. At this level of income, investors buying today would see a yield of 10%.There’s no guarantee Lloyds will resume its dividend plans this year, so this is not guaranteed. Still, these numbers show just how attractive the risk/reward ratio is for the stock after recent declines. So, while the Lloyds share price could fall further in the near term, longterm investors may be able to generate market-beating returns buying the lender today. UK queen’s husband Prince Philip, 99, admitted to hospital

first_imgLocal NewsWorld News Pinterest By Digital AIM Web Support – February 17, 2021 TAGS  WhatsApp WhatsApp Facebook LONDON (AP) — Britain’s 99-year-old Prince Philip has been admitted to a London hospital after feeling unwell, Buckingham Palace said Wednesday. The palace said the husband of Queen Elizabeth II was admitted to the private King Edward VII Hospital on Tuesday evening. It called the admission “a precautionary measure” taken on the advice of Philip’s doctor. The palace said Philip, also known as the Duke of Edinburgh, is expected to remain for a few days of “observation and rest.” His illness is not believed to be related to COVID-19. The queen and Philip received a first dose of a vaccine against the coronavirus in early January. Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s office said he “sends his best wishes to the Duke of Edinburgh as he undergoes a few days of rest in hospital.” Philip retired from public duties in 2017 and rarely appears in public. His most recent public event was a military ceremony at Buckingham Palace in July. During England’s current coronavirus lockdown, the duke has been staying at Windsor Castle, west of London, with the queen, who has performed duties such as meetings with dignitaries remotely. Lockdown permitting, the royal household is planning celebrations, to mark Philip’s 100th birthday on June 10. Philip married the then-Princess Elizabeth in 1947 and is the longest-serving royal consort in British history. He and the queen have four children, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A former naval officer and keen polo player, Philip enjoyed robust health well into old age but has had a number of health issues in recent years. In 2011, he was rushed to a hospital by helicopter after suffering chest pains and treated for a blocked coronary artery. In 2017, he spent two nights in the King Edward VII hospital and was hospitalized for 10 days in 2018 for a hip replacement. Philip was last hospitalized in December 2019, spending four nights in the King Edward VII Hospital for what the palace said was planned treatment of a pre-existing condition. He was forced to give up driving at the age of 97, after smashing into a car while driving a Land Rover near Sandringham estate in January 2019. Philip needed help to get out of the Land Rover but wasn’t injured. A woman in the other vehicle suffered a broken wrist. Even after that, Philip continued to drive a horse and carriage on private land from time to time.center_img UK queen’s husband Prince Philip, 99, admitted to hospital Twitter Twitter Previous articleLeonardo247 Grows C-Suite by Appointing Ryan Bovermann CTONext articleFormer LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan hired as next CEO of USGA Digital AIM Web Support Facebook Pinterestlast_img read more

first_imgARCADIA, Calif. (Dec. 31, 2016)–Although Saturday’s $100,000 Robert J. Frankel Stakes was for the moment denied its Grade III status due to a shift from Santa Anita’s turf course to the main track, Irish-bred Goodyearforroses unleashed a graded-worthy performance, as she took command turning down the backside under Corey Nakatani en route to a powerful 5 ¼ length win as she covered a mile and one eighth over a sloppy surface in 1:51.42. (The Frankel’s ultimate graded status will be determined by the American Graded Stakes Committee in the coming week).Idle since running a close third in a Grade III stakes run at 1 ¼ miles over Woodbine’s synthetic main track, Goodyearforroses made her first start on dirt today in what was also her Southern California debut for new trainer Richard Baltas. As for Nakatani, who made his return to the saddle here on Monday following an 8 ½ month hiatus from the saddle, the victory, which was his second on the day, was vintage “C. Nak,” as he seized the initiative early aboard a horse he’d never ridden in the afternoon.“The plan was, whatever came easy to her, don’t take it away,” said Nakatani. “It was an off track, so I just went out there and did my job. I just shook her up a little turning for home, and she kicked on…It’s always nice to win here at Santa Anita Park…I have to thank Richard and the owners for having faith in me.”With no show wagering due to three late scratches necessitated by the change in surface, Goodyearforroses was off at 5-2 in a field of four fillies and mares three and up and paid $7.60 and $3.60.A 4-year-old filly, Goodyearforroses, who is now owned by Abbondanza Racing, LLC, got her fifth win from 13 starts and with the winner’s share of $60,000, increased her earnings to $199,195.“She’s trained very forwardly and has worked well,” said Baltas. “When the race came off the turf, we thought, ‘Well, it’s a small field and she kind of skips across the dirt in the mornings.’ I didn’t know if she was going to like it or not, but she’s a very sound horse and I thought it was worth giving her a shot, especially with all the scratches.”Part of a three-way tussle for the early lead along with the winner and eventual third place finisher, Frenzified, Argentine-bred Pretty Girl finished second by 7 ¼ lengths. Ridden by Drayden Van Dyke, Pretty Girl was off at 7-2 and paid $4.00 to show.Fractions on the race were 23.44, 47.12, 1:11.24 and 1:37.53.last_img read more

Elimination of Section 199 proposed in tax reform

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest While a myriad of details are currently being hashed out in Congress regarding the tax reform measures that are a priority for the Trump Administration, there are some concerns in rural America concerning the debate. Language in the House version of the tax cuts includes eliminating the Section 199 deduction. The Section 199 deduction (or Domestic Production Activities Deduction) was enacted in 2004 as a part of the American Jobs Creation Act. The deduction applies to proceeds from agricultural products that are manufactured or marketed through cooperatives. The majority of co-ops pass the benefit through directly to their farmer members. The House has passed H.R. 1 that includes the repeal.“The deduction returns nearly $2 billion annually to rural areas across the country, so it has been good for agriculture and for rural America,” said Chris Henney, president and CEO of the Ohio AgriBusiness Association. “In its current form, H.R. 1 repeals Section 199 with the assumption that cooperatives and their members would benefit from the proposed reduction in corporate and individual tax rates. We believe that the tax cuts they are talking about would not compensate for the repeal of Section 199. The House Tax Cut and Jobs Act (H.R. 1) is intended to drive economic growth by lowering business taxes, but there have been concerns with the repeal of Section 199. Overall this tax reform is a good thing, there is just this piece that is of concern to the cooperative community, and rightly so.”Now that the Senate has taken up the tax reform discussion, Section 199 is being considered there as well.“A lot can still change with this but as of now the repeal of Section 199 is still in there and it could be very damaging for cooperatives in the state,” Henney said. “The cooperative world has certainly taken notice and they are reaching out to their delegation in the Senate across the country.”Back in October a letter was sent to Congress pointing out the potential ramifications of a 199 repeal for rural America. The letter was signed by United Producers, Inc., Ohio Dairy Producers Association, American Farm Bureau and National Farmers Union, among many others.“Ending the Section 199 deduction for agriculture would result in many individual farmers paying more in taxes, as most do not pay under the corporate code and the current proposal will not overcome the loss of the deduction,” the letter said. “In many cases farmers will see a double-digit increase in their tax bill under the proposed plan.”In addition, the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives (NCFC) expressed strong opposition to the proposed 199 repeal.“In a time of continued low commodity prices, those hardworking Americans who grow our food can ill afford for Congress to pass a law that will raise their taxes,” said Chuck Conner, president and CEO of NCFC. “It would be a strange irony indeed if a Republican Congress and a Republican president pass a law that increases taxes on America’s farmers.”last_img read more

Messi hat-trick helps Barcelona to record 35-match unbeaten run

first_imgBarcelona set a Spanish record of 35 matches unbeaten in all competitions with a thumping 5-1 win at nine-man Rayo Vallecano in La Liga on Thursday after goal-machine Lionel Messi scored his 35th hat-trick.Ivan Rakitic opened the scoring, Messi caught up with Real Madrids Cristiano Ronaldo on 35 trebles in all competitions and Arda Turan completed the rout, with Turkey’s captain scoring his first goal for the club since joining from Atletico Madrid.Barca’s victory, which saw them beat the undefeated record Real Madrid had held since the 1988/89 season, restored an eight-point lead at the top over Atletico with 11 matches to go.Atletico beat visiting Real Sociedad 3-0 on Tuesday, while third-placed Real Madrid are again 12 points off the pace after a 3-1 win at Levante on Wednesday.Barca were helped by the fact that Rayo lost defender Diego Llorente to a red card three minutes before halftime for a foul on Rakitic before Manuel Iturra was also sent off in the 67th for bringing down Sergio Busquets in the area.Busquets was felled from behind going for the rebound after a Messi free kick came back off the bar but Luis Suarez’s penalty was saved by Juan Carlos, Barcelona’s ninth miss from 18 penalties in all competitions this season.”It’s a strange situation (missing penalties),” the Catalan side’s midfield general Andres Iniesta said. “We mustn’t let it bother us while everything is working as well as it is.”The reasons are many (to explain) why the team continues in this positive dynamic (but) the league isn’t over, there are lots of points still to take,” he was quoted as saying on the As website ( scored in the 22nd minute by tapping the ball home when it fell to him after Juan Carlos spilt a high cross.Messi finished off a fine one-two with Neymar a minute later for his first goal and Llorente was shown the red card three minutes before halftime for a foul on Rakitic.Messi scored his second in the 53rd after a shot by Suarez came back off the post and completed his hat-trick in the 72nd after darting through the defence from midfield.Rayo got a consolation in the 57th through Manucho’s header after Bebe, at the far post, nodded a cross from the right into the middle as the two ex-Manchester United players combined.last_img read more

Former India hockey captain Sardar Singh retires

first_imgFormer India hockey captain Sardar Singh on Wednesday announced his retirement from the sport, saying he had played enough in the last 12 years and now it’s time for the youngsters to take over.Sardar decided to quit after a disappointing Asian Games campaign where India failed to defend its title and returned with a bronze medal.Sardar was on Wednesday dropped from the 25-member core group for the upcoming national camp, which will begin from September 16 in Bhubaneswar. With age and speed not on his side any more, Sardar’s performance in the Games came under the scanner.”I took the decision after consultation with my family in Chandigarh, Hockey India and my friends. I think it’s the right time to think about life beyond hockey,” he added.Interestingly, during the Asian Games in Jakarta, Sardar said he still has hockey left in him and desires to play one last Olympics in 2020 Tokyo. Also read – Hockey India contemplating big changes after men’s team falters at Asian GamesHowever, he had a change of heart amid speculation that he was forced to retire after his name was dropped from the 25-strong core group of national campers announced by the Hockey India Wednesday.Asked about the dropping from the camp, Sardar evaded the question and said he would formally announce his retirement during a press conference in the national capital on 14 September.Sardar made his senior debut for India against Pakistan in 2006 and since then he has been a vital cog in the Indian team’s midfield.advertisementThe 32-year-old made over 350 international appearances for India and captained the national team for eight long years from 2008 to 2016 before handing the responsibility to PR Sreejesh.Sardar was also the youngest player to captain the Indian team when he led the side at the 2008 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. He received the Arjuna award in 2012 and Padma Shri in 2015.Sardar has represented India in two Olympics. Sardar will leave behind a rich legacy in the sport. A fighter to the core, he came back strongly after being dropped from the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games squad. He worked hard on his fitness to roar back into the national team for the Champions Trophy, where India won a silver medal. With age, he slowed down a bit but Sardar still is considered as one of the fittest players in the Indian team.”Fitness is not the reason behind my decision. I am fit enough to play hockey for some more years. But there is always a time for everything and I feel it’s time for me to move on in life,” he said.Sardar said he has conveyed his decision to chief coach Harendra Singh, adding he will continue to play hockey in the domestic circuit.Hailing from Sirsa in Haryana, Sardar’s career was not devoid of controversy either.Sardar was accused of rape by an Indian-origin British woman, a charge which he vehemently denied and was also given a clean chit by the special investigation team of Ludhiana Police.(With PTI inputs)last_img read more
