Chris Robinson’s Mysterious New Project, As The Crow Flies, Announces Debut Lineup & Tour Dates

first_imgChris Robinson‘s mysterious new project, As The Crow Flies, has officially unveiled itself today with the band lineup and tour announcement. Singing songs from The Black Crowes‘ songbook, the band will feature Crowes guitarist Audley Freed and bassist Andy Hess, Chris Robinson Brotherhood drummer Tony Leone and keyboardist Adam MacDougall, as well as guitarist Marcus King. The new band will hit the road with a 15+ date tour in April and May across the nation, including Wanee Music Festival at Spirit of Suwannee in Live Oak, FL.Today, in an interview with Rolling Stone, he explains the change of heart and what to expect of the setlists. “We’ve discussed a few covers, but pretty much I want to just concentrate on the main Black Crowes albums, the songs that people will know. I’m not flogging away in the Black Crowes anymore, so there’s a celebratory element to it. If I haven’t sang ‘She Talks to Angels’ for five years, I’m going to have fun singing it every night for a few weeks. I have this thing called the CRB that is my wild imagination, my adventure and everything is there. Like I said, we have three weeks off. The other guys in the CRB are busy, so it just was a perfect time.”Robinson puts an end date on As The Crow Flies for May 14th, suggesting this will be their only tour together as a band before returning his full attention to the Chris Robinson Brotherhood. While it’s been over four years since the Black Crowes broke up, Chris Robinson has spent the last couple of years forming and touring with the Chris Robinson Brotherhood, creating new music, and throwing shade at his brother and former bandmate Rich Robinson (whom he hasn’t spoken to in five years) for The Magpie Salute, which Chris called “a Black Crowes tribute band” in an interview with Howard Stern. You can read the full Rolling Stones interview with Chris Robinson, in which he discusses the formation of As The Crow Flies, his relationship with brother, and more here. Letters to the Editor for Friday, Feb.22

first_imgBush, not Obama, passed enhanced license lawRegarding Mr. Vincent Belardo’s Feb. 8 letter, the Enhanced License Law was passed by Congress in 2005 under President George W. Bush, not President Barack Obama. Signed, A smart liberal Dem. Diane Sanders HombachSchenectady New York hostile to family valuesWhen introduced to someone new, it doesn’t take long for them to recognize that my accent is not native to Cincinnati. The conversation typically flows along the lines of me stating that I’m originally from New York resulting in genuine bewilderment that I don’t sound like a “New Yuhrker,” followed by me explaining that I’m from “upstate” New York, a difference without distinction in the eyes of most people in “fly over” country. My new acquaintance smiles politely while I deliver my soliloquy about how wonderful upstate New York is, the historical and cultural significance of Saratoga and Albany coupled with four-season beauty. I conclude with the polite reason for residing in Cincinnati: My wife is from Kentucky. Polite, yes. Accurate, no.The inconvenient truth is that if you desire to raise a family consistent with Christian values, there’s no compelling reason to live in New York state. Between the effort to close Catholic schools through the “substantially equivalent” review system and the legalization of infanticide through the Reproductive Health Care Act, the political class is clearly hostile to families of faith. This is in stark contrast to Ohio where we recently elected a governor who’s also about to sign a reproductive health care act: the Heartbeat Bill which will ban abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected (which can be as soon as six weeks gestation). The New York state that I was raised and still have family is no longer a good place to live. It’s a good place to be from. Chris RichardCincinnati, OhioThe writer is a former Burnt Hills resident. Where will it end? Who’s next to be “aborted” because “women have a right to choose?”Maybe they’ll choose a family without an old grandfather or a niece with cerebral palsy. God help us.I’m thankful for the courage of Laurie Cox, who wrote in her Feb. 9 letter that she had voted for people who support murder. She was deceived by their false “phrases” and now asked how she can live with her vote choice. She’s speaking out. How can they live with their vote?Thank you Jennifer Richard for your Feb. 9 letter about your daughter. Her tears brought me to tears. She asked what everyone should be asking, “What are we going to do? I don’t want that to happen.” Psalm 8:2 “Out of the mouths of babes.” What are we going to do?Susan HoverSchenectady Categories: Letters to the Editor, OpinionPro-choicers can’t rationalize murderAbortion is murder. For decades, pro-abortionists have hidden their agenda in “phrases” and cloaked it in “It’s about a woman’s right to choose; it’s her body.” Unless a woman’s body has four legs, four arms and two heads, how can you say it’s about a woman’s right over her body? There are two bodies all along, that can’t be disputed in the third trimester.Incrementally pro-abortionists succeeded in chipping away the morality of the issue and making it about “rights.” I heard state Sen. Diane Savino, D-Staten Island, say on the Jan. 22 news: “It’s not about abortion, although that’s part of it, it’s not about contraception, but that’s part of it, it’s about allowing women to really be fulfilled, as women and parents, and to choose the kind of family they want.” I encourage all New Yorkers to demand that state comptroller divest from fossil fuels and seek a better rate of return elsewhere.“Activists from 350.0rg, an advocacy group combating climate change, hired an investment firm to calculate how the NYS state pension fund would have fared if it had divested when first requested. The answer was it would be worth a “cool” (pun intended) $5 billion more and will grow in the future.” (“Exchange Traded Funds performed poorly over the last 7 years but this past year, renewable energy bested fossil fuels. In the last 3 months – a period of sharp market and oil price corrections – renewables trounced both fossil fuels and the S&P 500. Even Exxon Mobil lost over 30 percent of its value in the last 5 years.” (“Oil and gas companies misled the public and investors about climate change for decades. Even heirs to the original oil fortune of John D. Rockefeller, along with a growing list of philanthropic investors, announced they are divesting”: (“NYS is planning to divest almost $400 billion and Governor Cuomo states he is working with the NYS Comptroller to further this effort.” ( how you can to divest from fossil fuels: ( to  by February 27 to tell the New York State Comptroller to divest from fossil fuels. Encourage NY to divest from fossil fuels Big Apple life is not right for upstate Birth rates just one way to save planetAny reduction in birth rates are surely a welcome development. Yet this is hardly a cause for feeling optimistic about the impact of overpopulation on global warming, as Arthur Glaude seemed to imply in his Jan. 18 letter.  Blue sky, sunshine, a pot of coffee (undiluted) and a window rattling YouTube medley of Irish pub music inspired an epiphany of mind-expanding magnitude. The revelation is an analogy of the conflict between Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the English crown. It reminds me of the struggles between upstate New York and the “Big Apple” thugs and their outpost in Saratoga Springs. They have yet to come with their S.A.S. and armored cars to subdue and oppress the savages and heathens of upstate. However their attitudes, words and actions hint that it’s not off the table in the penthouses and mansions downstate.Andrew Cuomo reprises in the role of “Iron Lady” Thatcher and the downstate-dominated state Legislature is his Parliament. They are people who are convinced beyond doubt that the “Big Apple” way of life is the only way, and they will not rest until it’s imposed upon every citizen of New York and the U.S.At the national level, we find Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand. What more can I say about “Good Ol’ Chuck” that he’s not more than happy to say about himself? As for “Kiki,” she lays claim to being upstate born and bred, yet her loyalty is wedded to “Big Apple” wealth and power. Oh Hillary!Think about it; “Iron Lady” Cuomo and “Kiki” have presidential aspirations. “Chuckie” is a self-appointed champion of the common man. Sleep well tonight.Mark RahnScotia So, divest/reinvest now and help mitigate climate change. Robert ConnorsCanaan Bush administration came up with enhanced ID lawsIn response to his Feb. 8 letter, Vincent Belardo and titled “Liberal Dems show how dumb they are,” Mr. Belardo stated that “About seven or eight years ago, President Obama passed the enhanced license law. The enhanced law states that if you want to go to Mexico or Canada, you need the enhanced license,” and “I went to motor vehicles to get the real ID license.”After a quick visit to Wikipedia, my understanding of this topic is that the guidelines for both the enhanced license and the real ID license, which Mr. Belardo had attempted to get, were established under the Bush administration in 2005 at the behest of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The Real ID Act of 2005 modified U.S. federal law regarding the issuance procedures for state driver’s licenses and identity documents. The law and its requirements were not established under President Obama. The requirements which Mr. Belardo was asked to comply with in order to receive his real ID were established under this law’s more stringent guidelines. I’m not sure why his discharge papers were not accepted but I’m guessing that they did not meet the proof of legal status requirement, something which is stated on a birth certificate. I recently needed to get a new copy of my birth certificate, as my old one was completely faded. It’s a little time consuming but doable. If Mr. Belardo has lost his birth certificate, he can apply for a new one.Mary Ellen RiellSchenectady Predictions of overall increases in population for the Earth are estimated to range from about 9 billion to 11 billion by the end of this century. What impact this increase will have on the sustainability of our planet depends on where this growth will occur.People in less-wealthy urban centers generate much less carbon compared to those in most wealthy countries. The unfortunate trend, in places like China, is for people in urban environments to adopt consumption rates similar to high-income nations, which only exacerbates global warming. Despite some slowing in population growth, it could take centuries for any meaningful reductions to occur. Speeding the rate of decline in birth rates across the globe is part of the solution. Education and the increased status of women in societies have been shown to create a significant reduction in fertility rates.Climate change will remain a major threat to our planet. So please recycle, reduce your consumption levels and embrace a reduced carbon lifestyle. Also, encourage a child-free choice or adopt children as a means of sustaining the viability of our planet. Blackpool ‘reject chance to sign Joey Barton on loan’

first_imgBlackpool have rejected the chance to sign Joey Barton from QPR on a season-long loan, the Sunday Mirror say.It was claimed that Barton was on the verge of a move to Bloomfield Road and that Blackpool were keen to sign him to get one over neighbours Fleetwood Town, where the midfielder had been training.Hughes wants a centre-back.It is now said that Blackpool did not think it made financial sense to sign a player who is suspended for the first 12 matches of the season.QPR are ready to tempt St Etienne with a £7.5m offer for young French centre-back Kurt Zouma, according to The Sun on Sunday.Rangers supposedly face competition from Juventus, who planned to watch the 17-year-old face Lille on Saturday. And The People pick up on R’s boss Mark Hughes’ apparent interest in signing William Gallas from Tottenham.Meanwhile, Southampton are confident they will keep defender Luke Shaw in spite of Chelsea’s £4m bid, The Sun on Sunday report.Chelsea are among several leading clubs to have shown an interest in the Saints prospect, 17, but have been told he is not for sale.Related West London Sport story: Chelsea to table bid for Saints prospect (2 July)Chelsea expect to complete the signing of Victor Moses from Wigan for £8.5m this week, according to the Daily Star Sunday.Wigan chairman Dave Whelan said: “I have spoken to Chelsea’s chief executive and they are easy to deal with. We have told them the price and they will agree it or not.“We would much prefer Victor to sign a new contract but he wants to go to Chelsea. It’s a good club so we cannot stand in his way.”The Star also say Fernando Torres has two weeks to prove he can fill the boots of Didier Drogba. It is claimed that if the Spaniard doesn’t strike – starting against Manchester City today – boss Roberto Di Matteo won’t think twice about replacing him.Fulham boss Martin Jol is considering a move for Sunderland’s Kieran Richardson and is making a surprise £3m bid to sign Bolton striker David Ngog, according to The People.Richardson has been tipped to leave the Stadium of Light for £2m, while Frenchman Ngog has been linked with several clubs since Bolton were relegated last season. It is also claimed that Jol is weighing up a move for Peterborough striker Paul Taylor if he misses out on Huddersfield’s Jordan Rhodes. The Mail on Sunday suggest Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is prepared to offer Charlie Adam to Fulham as part of an exchange deal for Clint Dempsey. This page is regularly updated. See also:Barton ‘on the verge of Blackpool move’Follow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebooklast_img read more

Hey Chicken Little, the Cloud Is Not Falling

first_imgTop Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… Tags:#cloud Related Posts alex williamscenter_img We sure are hearing the chickens running around in a panic about the dangers of cloud computing following the massive data loss involving T-Mobile Sidekick customers. And as usual, the cacophony sounds more like a bunch of pundits ruminating about the great dangers that may be ahead instead of the reality at hand. The problem is, most of them are making zero distinction about what constitutes a cloud computing service. The Sidekick disaster was not the result of a cloud disaster. It was a centralized data center that had poor oversight.DevCentral clears things up with its distinction between cloud services and applications:A “cloud service” is used by IT, by developers, by the technical community at large. What consumers access is an application, and nothing more. They aren’t the user of the cloud service, they are the consumer of an application deployed in a cloud environment. Google Docs is an application. Gmail is an application. Twitter is an application. None of these are “cloud” services, even when using APIs designed to integrate them with other applications; they are still, always and forever, applications. We do not question the severity of what happened to Sidekick customers. It looks like about 1 million people are affected. They lost it all. Pictures, calendars and a whole host of information. These customers had no choice about what happened. They relied on T-Mobile. And T-Mobile relied on Microsoft/Danger for storing the data. This was not a cloud catastrophe. Developments continue to unfold: Hitachi Datasystems is now being fingered as the source of the problem. But since we are on the topic, there are some basic lessons to learn in working with a cloud service provider. This is not a complete list. Feel free to add your own pieces of advice.Lesson #1If you are storing your data in the cloud for your customers to access, you’d better know if the company you have hired is actually the one managing your data. If your vendor is outsourcing your data to another provider, it could be a recipe for trouble.Lesson #2Know who you are working with and make sure there will be no surprises. Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) providers that don’t keep customers posted about changes or upgrades can be real trouble-makers. All kinds of mix-ups can occur. A SaaS vendor recently pulled this one on its users. Customers had no idea about the upgrade. They had no control.Lesson #3Make sure your provider has safety valves in place. How is the data backed up? Let’s say, again, that the SaaS provider does an upgrade, but there’s a nasty bug fouling things up. If the cloud configuration has a safety valve in place, then the customer can mitigate the issue pretty easily.Lesson #4Don’t use just one cloud service provider. Security experts make the point that you don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Look at multiple cloud service providers so that if there are issues, damage is limited.Perhaps, overall, the greatest lesson out of the Sidekick disaster has nothing to do with the cloud at all but more about the applications that people use in the enterprise. Facebook? Twitter? Those are applications that may be more troublesome than cloud computing services because of their vulnerability to attack and lack of control over the data. 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic…last_img read more

Jhansi youth death: Conflicting accounts on encounter add doubt to police version

first_imgWhile the family of Jhansi resident Pushpendra Yadav have alleged that he was killed in a staged encounter, the police version has come under further scrutiny after conflicting statements issued by two district police officers.According to the statement by Jhansi SSP Om Prakash Singh on the night of the incident, the Station House Officer of Moth, Dharmendra Singh Chauhan, was returning to Jhansi from Kanpur in his private car on October 5 after a two-day leave, when he received a call from a local resident, purportedly Pushpendra Yadav. The person on the other end of the phone asked Mr. Chauhan to meet him at an intersection, the SSP said. Mr. Chauhan was “alone” and in plainclothes, the SSP said, adding that as soon as the SHO stopped his car and rolled down the window to look around, the accused fired at him.The SHO’s description of the incident, however, does not tally with the SSP’s statement. Talking to the media from his hospital bed, where he is recovering from injuries allegedly suffered during the encounter, Mr. Chauhan said he had gone out from his police station to patrol and check duty on the night of the incident. He said he was accompanied by a constable, Saurabh, and both of them were in a private car. “At the Bamrauli intersection around 9 p.m., a person waved (at us) and I stopped the car. He came close and pulled out his country pistol and fired,” said Mr. Chauhan, not mentioning any phone call. When asked whether he was returning from his leave, as stated by the SSP, the SHO said he had returned from leave the same day and gone out for patrol. The SHO claimed the accused shot and fled with his mobile phone and vehicle.Meanwhile, amid questions over the authenticity of the encounter, the police released a list of crimes attributed to Pushpendra Yadav to establish his criminal record as an alleged mining mafia member. However, all the five cases listed by the police related to inter-personal disputes, village-level offences or prohibitory action to prevent law and order disturbances. All cases pertain to 2014 and 2015.The charges against Pushpendra Yadav included enticing or taking away or detaining with criminal intent a married woman, criminal intimidation, voluntarily causing hurt and verbal threats. The police also claimed that Pushpendra Yadav’s truck was fined twice in 2018 for illegal mining. It was served a fresh challan on September 29 and seized.Pushpendra Yadav’s body was cremated by police on October 7 night after his family refused to take his body till a murder case is lodged against the police officer who shot him. The family accused the police of cold-blooded murder. His brother, Rabindra Yadav, a CISF jawan, claimed Pushpendra Yadav did not have any criminal record and never owned any weapon.Pushpendra Yadav’s wife Shivangi on October 9 alleged that her husband was killed because he had threatened to expose the local SHO for demanding bribe from him in return for promising to free his seized truck. She said her husband had already paid the police ₹1.5 lakh but they were harassing him for more. Pushpendra Yadav had threatened to make the recordingss of their bribe dealing to go “viral”, she said. “If he was at fault, you could have summoned him or taken him to jail. The police had his phone number,” she said.Ms. Shivangi Yadav further said that if her husband had shot the SHO and escaped with his car, as claimed by police, he would have been shot in the back and not in the head. “They caught hold of him and killed him,” she alleged.Akhilesh demands high-level probeSamajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, after meeting the family of the deceased, said a probe monitored by a sitting High Court judge would bring out the facts, as he questioned the police version. “This is not an encounter. The police committed a murder,” Mr. Akhilesh Yadav said.“No one believes the police story. Nobody is satisfied with the story and sequence of events narrated by the Jhansi Police administration,” he said. The SP chief also demanded that a murder case be lodged against the SHO, as demanded by the family. “You can estimate how big the conspiracy is when all officials and the government come together to save the station officer,” Mr. Akhilesh told reporters in Jhansi.last_img read more

You guys have a responsibility to start a new franchise. That’s where our hearts have always been, just trying to create original ideas,” Woods said.
