Related News Earlier this year indianexpresscom got up close and personal with Dangal actor Aamir Khan and his fabulous fat to fit story Now Bollywood’s Mr Perfectionist is out with a special video that documents his fitness journey The 5-minute 20-second video follows Khan from the time he had gained weight to play the elder Mahavir Singh Phogat to losing around 25kg to play the younger part The video introduces the many people intimately involved in the whole process from his fitness trainer Rahul Bhatt to Rakesh Udiyar bodybuilder and fitness trainer They talk about how the actor mentally and physically worked on his body so as to get into shape Of course we all know how Khan insisted that the film be shot in reverse – his fat look first and then the bit with his lean look so that he had the motivation to get back into shape in record time They opted for a customised diet plan in consultation with renowned dietitian Dr Nikhil Dhurandhar on calorific deficit for Khan in which the diet would oscillate from 1800 kCal to 2500 kCal To gain weight in the initial part Khan indulged in everything “from brownies to samosas chocolates ice creams and cakes everyday” which sounds like a great plan for anyone The tricky part came when he had to shed all that extra flab which is where diet was key Watch the Fat to Fit video here “People use new methods different diets these days I still stick to calorie count system Fifty per cent is that of the diet when you reduce weight 25 per cent depends on workout and the rest 25 per cent on taking rest” Khan had said “The key is a balanced diet Take 20 per cent of your calorie intake from healthy fats 30 per cent of calorie is from proteins and 50 per cent of the calories consumed should be from carbohydrates” explained Khan negating the popular myth that carbohydrates should be avoided if someone wants to lose weight He said it’s the carbohydrates that give the body energy and the brain glucose Effectively it’s about a balanced diet “Now if you want to lose weight your calorie count should be lower I used to consume around 2500 kCal a day but burnt a lot more” said the actor Watch video: How Aamir Khan lost weight to play young Mahavir in Dangal “Diet is No 1 in changing your body You can exercise all you want but if your diet is not right you won’t get the desired result” says Khan in the new video He recently further clarified that he would eat 25g of Upma with 100g papaya That would be followed with a protein shake and tuna sandwich of just a slice of bread For lunch there were rotis made of 30g of grains along with some vegetables Along with the diet Khan had a strict exercise regimen that included a lot of weight lifting At one point Udiyar says when Khan would give up and say he couldn’t work out any more he’d tell him to work out with less weight but instead have him do more only informing the actor of the feat once accomplished You can see the glee on the actor’s face when he finds out that his body fat level is down to 96 per cent Though those intending to follow in Khan’s footsteps should take care that the actor went through just a drastic weight loss because of of shortage of time He has categorically advised that others should opt for a more slow and steady route that would not negatively impact the health For all the latest Lifestyle News download Indian the video below Written by Harish Damodaran | Updated: June 18 2015 5:11 am From an agricultural perspective it is the rains in July and August — during the crucial vegetative and early reproductive growth stages of the crop — that really matter Related News The southwest monsoon — touch wood — has been pretty good so far though it’s still very early days The country as a whole has received 807 millimetres (mm) of area-weighted rainfall during June 1-17 which is about 109 per cent above the normal long period average (LPA) of 728 mm for this period Moreover 54 per cent of India’s area has recorded ‘excess’ precipitation (ie 120 per cent or more of a particular subdivision’s LPA) while being ‘normal’ (within 80-120 per cent of LPA) in another 23 per cent Only in the balance 23 per cent area have rains been below 80 per cent of LPA which translates into ‘deficient’ or ‘scanty’ Share This Article Related Article The most heartening trend is the monsoon being either in excess or normal in the country’s most drought-prone belt from Rajasthan Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh to the contiguous stretch across Vidarbha Marathwada North-Interior Karnataka Rayalaseema and Telangana These regions produce a lot of pulses and oilseeds — crops with significant import-dependency and also most susceptible to inflation — apart from coarse grains like jowar and bajra The good initial burst of monsoon rains will certainly give a boost to their plantings The rains have also been good in Chhattisgarh and Odisha while yet to pick up in Uttar Pradesh Bihar Jharkhand and West Bengal These states — and also Punjab and Haryana — largely grow rice during the kharif season much of it under assured irrigation cover That coupled with the abundant rice stocks in government warehouses would make a monsoon failure in the north-west or eastern states not as significant a threat compared to poor rains in western and central India But right now we are just at the start of the four-month monsoon season which registers a cumulative country-wide LPA rainfall of 8869 mm: 1635 mm in June 2889 mm in July 261 mm in August and 1735 mm in September The 807 mm precipitation received as on Wednesday represents just over 9 per cent of the normal LPA for the entire season From an agricultural perspective it is the rains in July and August — during the crucial vegetative and early reproductive growth stages of the crop — that really matter The Met Department in its forecast update issued on June 2 has predicted overall rainfall for the country at only 92 per cent of the LPA for July and 90 per cent in August Whether that would prove right or (hopefully) wrong we will know in the weeks to come For all the latest India News download Indian Express App More Related NewsWritten by Abantika laid down the conditions in which animals meant for consumption are to be kept and transported to the slaughterhouse the Transport Ministry has finally laid down rules for the transportation of such animals Earlier this month the ministry notified changes in the Motor Vehicles Act that require animal transportation vehicles to be registered as such with the respective Road Transport Offices (RTOs) and equipped with welded cages of specified sizes for transportation of specific animals The move comes after a series of petitions from animal rights activists about the harsh conditions in which animals are transported The notification issued on July 8 came after Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi took the issue up with Union Minister for Road Transport and Shipping Nitin Gadkari The notification that is to come into effect from January 1 2016 requires animal transport trucks to adhere to standards set by the Bureau of Indian Standards and to have permanent cages to ensure that it cannot transport more than the allowed number of animals — six buffaloes or 40 goats per truck It lays down cage sizes for transport of bovines horses sheep and goats pig and poultry Share This Article Related Article A motor vehicle that is registered as an animal carrying vehicle cannot carry other goods If it does it will lose its registration apart from being made to pay a fine far heftier than those prescribed under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act Since only two states — West Bengal and Kerala — allow cow slaughter cows from all over India are transported to these two states for slaughter The long distance travel makes cows among the most abused during transportation with animals sometimes stacked one on top of the other with their noses tied upwards to leave room for breathing Many of these animals are pregnant as there is a belief that eating a pregnant animal helps produce babies While regulation of transportation of animals has been a long standing demand of animal rights activists the regulations of the Food Safety Act (FSA) issues in 2011 clearly lay down that unnecessary stress to an animal during transportation may cause the quality of meat to suffer It also requires livestock to be certified by a veterinary expert before slaughter “Livestock are transported en masse from the farm to the slaughterhouse a process called ‘live export’ Depending on the journey’s length and circumstances this exerts stress and injuries on the animals and some may die en route Apart from being inhumane unnecessary stress in transport may adversely affect the quality of the meat” read the regulations under the FSA Injured animals according to the regulations are not to be slaughtered This rule however is routinely
